Playing Tag

Apr 17, 2009

I got a lot of grief for saying that I'd discovered the secret to amusing Opal: a pack of 12-year old boys. ("That works great right until it goes horribly wrong" said Brent.) It depends on the 12-year old boys you've got, of course, but if you have the right ones, they will play tag for 2.5 consecutive hours, being just strong-minded enough not to put up with too much from Opal, and sweet enough not to aggravate her too much. Her only complaint was "All my friends had to go home just when we got started". Did I mention 2.5 hours of tag? (Well, some of it was hide-and-seek, and some of it was a hybrid variant of tag and hide-and-seek.) Apparently that was just enough to get started.

The occasion was a potluck, and I brought celery root salad, moroccan carrot salad, and pickled daikon (or, as opal says "radishes in sauce"). Everything was well received, but the pickled daikon was the big favorite. I should have made more; I was aiming to have some of everything left for our breakfast, because moroccan carrot salad is one of my favorite breakfasts, and Opal considers radishes suitable for all occasions. But the daikon was all eaten, so we will have to survive on celeriac and carrots.

Read to Opal: Alice Ramsay's Grand Adventure, The Golden Egg, Bunny Trouble, The Bunnies' Ball, The Grumpy Easter Bunny (which bothers me because it has some kittens in it which are still kittens the next easter), Thunder Bunny, What do Bunnies Do All Day? (Can you tell Janet has the Easter books out?)

The Running Book Count: 124 + 24 (last year 1170 + 121)
